HARGEISA (Horn Observer) A court in the breakaway republic of Somaliland has on Sunday revoked newspaper printing license for one year and fined its management, officials said.

The regional court of Maroodi Jeex suspended  the printing license of Foore newspaper for one year and fined its management for 3 million Somaliland shillings.

"We have submitted six cases in the years of 2016, 2017 and 2018 against Foora newspaper” Mowlid Abdi Muse aka Maax, deputy attorney general  told the local media, "The court revoked the license of the newspaper for one year and its owners have been fined with 3 million Somaliland Shillings”

The newspaper and is management Mohamed Mohamoud Yusuf aka Ilka case and Abdirashid Sheikh Abdiwahab Sheikh Ibrahim have been accused for spreading propaganda against the state as per the Attorney general interview.

Somaliland Journalists Association (SOLJA) called the decision by the court  a threat to the democratic principles and the freedom of expression of Somaliland.

"The decision of court threatens the press freedom and the democratic principles of Somaliland.” Mohamoud Abdi Jama "Xuute” SOLJA chairman said in an interview with the local media. "When the media publishes a pience on the public interest, they face with severe punishment.”

Somaliland which is relatively calm oppresses the media and the civil society activists leading to jail term or heavy fines.
