The UPD party leadership, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has accused Somali President and his premier of failing to curb the overall security of the capital of Mogadishu.

Mohamed said the top leaders had failed to secure the capital of Somalia, amid rising deadly suicide bombs and assassinations by al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab.

He says the Somali leaders started to oppress and track down opposition politicians, instead of focusing on tackling the overall security of Somali capital Mogadishu.

The war of words was made while Mohamed was speaking to the opening of his UPD party’s headquarters in the capital of Somalia.

There was no immediate comment from Somali President Mohamed and his Premier Hassan Khair’s offices over the allegation.

The UPD party leadership remarks comes days after UN staff members left wounded in mortar attack against UN compound in Mogadishu.
The attack was claimed by al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab.

The Islamist militant group, which is fighting to overthrow the Western-backed government, vowed to rump up its attacks on diplomatic areas in Somalia.
But this latest assault, which was immediately claimed by al-Shabab, has proved that it is still capable of large scale attacks.

The al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab has been fighting for more than ten years in Somalia.

Mogadishu is regularly targeted by al-Shabab, which was forced from the capital in 2011, but still has a strong presence in regions around the capital of Somalia.
